Interoperability

INSPIRE Data interoperability aims to ensure the identification of the spatial data defined in the framework of the so called INSPIRE Themes a INSPIRE priority datasets and to ensure their harmonisation (unification) at the level of content and display.

Data identification

Required by identification of all spatial data that are in electronic form and under the management of providers, belonging to public tasks and related to INSPIRE themes or INSPIRE priority datasets. The data so identified in the actual structure is also referred to as AsIs datasets need to be made available through services and documented through metadata.

Data harmonisation

It is the process of unifying data structure and representation through related legislation and technical documentation across boundaries or user communities. The harmonisation process aims to achieve the required level of interoperability. The harmonisation should result in INSPIRE ToBe a harmonised dataset, accessible through INSPIRE services and documented through metadata.

For specific national and domain requirements, the generic INSPIRE conceptual model can be extended through the concept of INSPIRE extensions.
